Middlesbrough, once know as Ironopolis, was a proud leader of the Industrial Revolution. The land was rich with iron ore and lent itself to the legacy of steel production and ship building that Middlesbrough is so synonymous with. The town has always attracted people from every corner of the world and prospered from industry and immigration. While the townspeople still hold that pride of the past, due to years of austerity and neglect, Middlesbrough is but a fraction of its heyday, with rising deprivation, child poverty and food insecurity. The potential, however, to be a leader of new technologies, industries and ideas is huge, and that’s where LocalMotion comes in.
